Tuesday 17 April, Poems for Grenfell Tower Launch
Last Sunday I read at the launch of Poems for Grenfell Tower, which includes my poem Border Patrol. The launch took place at the Harrow Club, just a few hundred metres from the tower. It was a moving and dignified occasion, and you could feel the sense of loss and pain as if it was in the air in north Kensington. Poetry doesn’t necessarily help, certainly not in the way firemen, paramedics or doctors can, but the stories we tell about the things that happen help us make a kind of sense out of the past, which is important if we want to learn from it. And there is a lot we need to learn from what happened that night. The anthology can be bought direct from The Onslaught Press here or from Hive (which supports local bookshops) here.
